Now & Then

Albany, NY

Although the members of Now & Then have been singing together in Capitaland for many years, they only recently decided to join their individual voices together as a quartet. And they are having a blast!! They are grateful for the close supportive friendship their quartet provides and the flexibility of their schedules which allows them to get together every “Now & Then.”  Above left to right:  Mary (Baritone); Christine (Lead); Lin (Bass); Cheryl (Tenor)

Cheryl Chalk, (Tenor - 23 years), has been singing since she could talk. But, 20 years ago she discovered the Sweet Adelines'a capella barbershop style and has been hooked ever since. She has been involved in all aspects of the organization and part of various quartet and small ensemble combinations including competing as a quartet tenor in Region 16. She always loves singing with Now & Then Quartet. She is an IT professional and lives with her husband Mike, and her granddaughter Maya.

Christine DeFilippo, (Lead - 16 years), Her wonderful husband, John, encouraged her to join because when she sang, he knew she was happy! He also thought she should have a hobby when she "got older"...and the kids were on their own. Christine is a member of the choreo team and is enjoying the friendship and the challenge of quarteting.

Mary Murphy, (Baritone - 19 years, including a 3 year stint with her Sisters in Harmony Down Under in Australia!) She is a member of the Management Team and Marketing Liaison and has held various chorus jobs and responsibilities over the years. Mary is embracing the opportunity to be quarteting with her buddies Cheryl, Christine, and Lin. A retired School Psychologist and Educator she is an usher/house manager at several venues in the Capital Region. In her “spare” time she enjoys reading, writing, sports, the outdoors, and traveling with her husband Graham, her #1 Fan (who also moonlights as Capitaland's Graham-Of-All-Trades) “Murph” proudly claims ownership for any shenanigans!

Lin Smith, (Bass, 19 years) When she saw an ad in the newspaper for Capitaland Chorus' "A Capella 101" class she took a deep breath and decided to try it. With her sons now in high school and college, she knew this was a good time to pursue a new "hobby". It was a different, refreshing change from her job as a research scientist (genetics, NYS). She has served on the Board of Directors / Management Team in various capacities over the years. She loves the challenges of the music and the wonderful friendships made in the chorus. Singing bass is awesome and fun with these three wonderful ladies!
